A few tips for enjoying a leisurely float down the Truckee River.

Here are a few pointers to make the most out of your float down the Truckee:

  1. Head out early: The river can get mighty crowded come midday, and cool as the sun drops behind the trees. Leaving before 10 a.m. will put you at River Ranch just in time for that well-deserved lunch (the float takes anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on your method of travel).
  2. Get a professional lift: While that inflatable duck might get a few laughs, you’ll be glad you’re floating high and dry with up to 8 of your friends on a raft from Truckee River Rafting or Truckee River Raft Co. Both companies provide return transportation.
  3. Come hungry: Picnicking is prime on this lazy river. Pack a lunch to eat en route or save yourself for the yummy River Ranch patio grill fare.
  4. Stay hydrated: Bringing drinking water is a must in Tahoe’s high-altitude sun, especially if you are also toting liquids on a less-healthy variety.
  5. Pack, and pack out, smart: Bring only the necessities and take advantage of the trash receptacles along the journey. It’s a shame to see litter on such a beautiful float.
