  1. Go jump in The Lake at one of the beaches that permit pooches, which include Kiva Beach on South Shore, Chimney Beach on East Shore, Carnelian Bay Beach on North Shore and Kaspian Recreation Area on West Shore.
  2. Take Squaw Valley USA's cable car to High Camp and explore mountaintop trails.
  3. Sniff out the treat jar at dog-loving businesses: Scraps Dog Bakery in Tahoe City, Truckee and Kings Beach; Ace Hardware in Incline Village; Java Juice in Tahoe City; Tails by the Lake at the Village at Squaw Valley; and Dog.Dog.Cat at the Village at Northstar and South Lake Tahoe.
  4. Take a hike—almost anywhere.
  5. Party with your pup at the Village at Squaw Valley Art Bark Fest on September 15 and 16, or during Friday Yappy Hour at Tails by the Lake (vino for you, free doggy ice cream and "beer" for Fido, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 7 through Labor Day weekend).
  6. Attend Camp Winnaribbon, a South Lake Tahoe canine camp.
  7. Float/dog paddle the Truckee River from Tahoe City to River Ranch, or take the water taxi across Echo Lakes.
  8. Put the top down for a scenic drive around Lake Tahoe's 72-mile shore or hop on a horsedrawn carriage for a 30-minute tour of Stateline with Borges Carriage Rides. Dogs ride free.
